So I have given my self a new years resolution that has sparked a new prioject idea for me. To take a portrait every day of the year...
As 2012 is a leap year there will be 366 days and so 366 portraits. The project will be called originally 366 for now and I will try to upload all the images onto my blog under the category 366.
Here is the first image of me...
New years day. I hadn't been capable of doing much most of the day and so running out of time to start the project I shot myself, still feeling the effects of the night before.
Over the summer I completed a new image in my ongoing series "Mythographies". The image is titled "The Torment of Prometheus" and is based on the story of the Titan Prometheus who was punished by the gods for aiding mankind by steeling fire from Zeus. Among other things Prometheus gave mankind the arts and science as well as astronomy and mathematics. For all the help and kindness prometheus showed to man he was abandoned by them to his fate until Herecles finally saved him. For his punishment Zeus tied Prometheus to a rock in the mountains to endure exposure to the elements and each day his liver would be pecked out by a giant eagle, only to have it grow back during the night.
The image explores notions of abandonment, lonliness and suffering. It is also an exploration of my relationship with alcohol, solitude and urban living. There is more to explain in the image but that will have to wait for a more comprehensive write-up.
I am currently working on an addition to the project "Mythographies" that has been part of the original idea from the start but has yet to be developed fully.
This part of the project will include a collection of documentary style images taken during the shooting of the main images, giving a more graphic and pseudo realistic dipiction of the sentral narrative. The aim will be to combine these images into a sort of slideshow/ static film with a sound track. For now here is a taster of some of the images from the recent shoot I did for the image "The Torment of Prometheus". See the rest of the series here.
I have a new exhibition coming up from 19th Sept - 11th Nov. It is at Ketchum Pleon, 35-41 Folgate Street, London, E1 6BX.
The Exhibition features images from three separate series "Anachronisms", "Incongruities" and "The Wick Wood" and is kindly supported by Ketchum Pleon.

art@ketchum pleon presents human/nature which comprises a selection of
photographs from three stunning series.
Inspired by the paintings of Rembrandt and other old masters, the series ‘Anachronisms’ aims to explore the historical and contemporary relationship between painting and contemporary photography. Images from the series were selected for exhibition at the Photographers Gallery as part of their Fresh Faced and Wild Eyed competition, as well as being selected as finalists in the AOP student awards 2010. ‘Philippos’ from the series was also selected for exhibition as part of the National Portrait Gallery’s 2009 Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize.
The series ‘Incongruities’ takes the aesthetic qualities and approach from the series ‘Anachronisms’ and applies it to the wonderfully eccentric world of fashion. It was originally commissioned for an exhibition at London fashion week 2010 by On|Off and was continued during the event held at Victoria House. Participating sitters include designers such as J Maskrey and Yang Du and characters such as Jodie Harsh and Jonny Woo.
The Wick Wood is an ongoing series of images of the Hackney area formally known as ‘Wick Field’ situated adjacent to the new Olympic park. Historically an expanse of marshland, following a period of development threats, the 12-hectare community woodland was planted with about 30,000 trees, as compensation for the M11 link road. As places of magic and mystery, peopled with spirits, dryads, nymphs and elves, woodlands have always been intertwined with narratives and story telling. Woodlands today still provide a setting for dark stories, clandestine meetings, trysts and youthful experimentation. The images are the result of Steven’s personal exploration of the wood and reflect his interaction with the area as well as marking the traces of narrative left by others and hint at the stories left untold.

After a bit of a redesign and a major backend overhaul the new website has now been launched.
There are a few new things in the way the images are displayed and navigated as well as changes to how the blog works and a few other things behind the scenes to hopefully make it a better experience. The website has undergone a bit of a redesign, and although not drastically different hopefully it is a bit cleaner and fresher.
The other change is that there is now a dedicated mobile version of the site so if you browse to the site with an android/iPhone (or whatever your preference) you should see a streamlined version of the site. This is still slightly under development and here are a few wrinkles to iron out and also due to a lack of access to all the different devices out there it has only been minimally tested.

An image of Parkinson’s sufferer Tim Andrews I made a while ago, at his request as part of an ongoing project, will be featured in a slide-show presentation at the Guernsey Photography Festival 2011.
